How To Approach a Recruiter

Preparation

• Research companies of interest
• Dress to impress
• Know what youre selling and be prepared for it!
• Usually youre selling yourself, so this would
  include knowing everything on your resume and
  having extra copies of it with you
• For at the Fall Career Fair in 2 weeks, this
  would also include knowing details for DECaF
• Bring professional notebook/folder

• Firm handshake
• Remember Chriss presentation during our first
  week meeting about the grapefruit?
• Full Name
• Enunciate
• Show confidence
• Obtain contact information/website
• Think on your feet!
• Tell the Truth
• It is okay to not know something! We will be
  there to back you up if you would like help, or
  it is also perfectly fine to say that you can get
  back to the recruiter with more info

• Largest student run career fair on campus, one of
  the largest on the West coast
• Over 70 companies for the past three years
• Only engineers!
• Undergrads and graduate students

• Ask for a business card to send them an
  electronic invitation!

A Task/Homework

• We have the contact info for many companies, but
  there are a lot that we dont have any
  information about
• Find the email addresses for 5 companies that
  didnt attend last year, and send Emily the
  company name and their website, in addition to
  their email address
• Some companies dont have a direct email address
  on their websites, only a contact us page with
  a comments/questions box
• Record the website and company
