Introduction
  • I am in my ninth year of teaching. I
graduated from Winthrop University in 1997 with a
BA in Early Childhood Education. I began my
career at Buford Elementary in Lancaster, SC. For
the past seven years, I have been teaching at
Rosewood Elementary in Rock Hill, SC. I am
married and have two children. In my sixth year
of teaching I decided to begin working for
National Board Certification. In 2005, I received
this accreditation. In 2006, I made the decision
to begin working towards a Masters degree. I am
currently working towards this goal with
anticipation to graduate from Lesley University
in 2007 with a Masters Degree in Technology In
Education. Through all of my continuing
education, I have developed my beliefs and values
of education and teaching. I have reflected on
who I am as a teacher, my goals, and future
contributions that I can make as an educator.

Conceptual Philosophy Conceptual Framework
  • My philosophy of education has changed
greatly as my knowledge of theories and
research-driven data have increased. Coupled with
the change in my philosophy, there has been a
change in my methods of teaching. I model my
    teaching after the constructivist philosophy.
Within this model, learning takes place in an
active environment where students interact with
each other and the world around them. With this
belief, I also follow the structure set forth by
    the International Baccalaureate Primary Years
Program. This belief focuses on the total growth
of the developing child, touching hearts as well
as minds, and encompassing social, physical,
emotional and cultural needs in addition to
    academic development.

5
Conceptual Framework Philosophy Continued
  • My curriculum framework consists of five
    essential elements concepts, knowledge, skills,
attitude, action. The knowledge component is
    developed through inquiries into six
    transdisciplinary themes of global significance,
supported and balanced by six subject areas. I
develop my curriculum using the backward design
process of Wiggins McTighe which begins with
the end in mind. I begin with the desired
results, goals or standards, then decide how
    students will demonstrate their understanding,
and finally design the sequence of learning
experiences that students will undertake to
    develop understanding.

6
Conceptual Framework Philosophy Continued
  • I assess students by selecting or designing
methods of assessment appropriate to the learning
outcomes they intend to capture. I often
    incorporate technology into instruction and
assessment. I use the Promethean board, various
software in my computer center, computers for
research, and IGPRO to track assessments.
  • My prime objective of assessing students
learning and performance is to give feedback to
students by encouraging the start of lifelong
learning. I also assess to support what and how I
teach and to highlight students learning and
    development for parents.
