Background
  • Oldest of four children, grew up on family farm,
    and learned work ethic and value of an education.
  • Went to Turkey Valley Community Schools for K-12
    education. Graduated with honors and
    participated in band, choir, and sports.
  • Attended the University of Northern Iowa and
    learned the importance of leadership. Was an RA
    for 2 years in Noehren Hall and worked several
    jobs. Made the Deans List every semester.

Educational Beliefs
  • All kids can and will learn. It happens at
    different rates and times. It is all about
    individual growth and doing the best you can
    every day.
  • Kids learn best by asking questions and through
    hands-on, relevant project based learning.
  • Kids are inately good, but sometimes they make
    bad choices. We need to teach them about logical
    consequences.

What do Principals Do?
  • Ensure that quality classroom instruction is
    taking place by doing walk-thru observations on a
    weekly basis
  • Oversee curriculum, special education, grants,
    community involvement and building projects
  • Interact with students, staff, parents, and
    community
  • Problem solving with students, teachers, parents
  • Discipline when needed
  • Supervision of events
  • Meetings, meetings, meetings!!!!
