Title: Geographic Information Systems and its Applications
1Geographic Information Systems and its
Applications
2Outline
- GI System, Science and Study
- Example of GIS
- Careers in GIS
31. Geographic Information System, Science or
Study
- In information system one deals with tools for
problem solving ranging from curiosity driven
science to real world problem solving - E.g. Accuracy issues, principles map design,
novice users need as well as GIS design, data,
and methods. - GIS Science is a systematic study of fundamental
issues, concepts and principles arising from
creation, storage, retrieval and use of
information - In understanding geographic phenomena, one can
link past, and present and predict the future.
General information may be combined with specific
information - In Geographic study, we study societys use and
application of GI. It needs both GI system and GI
science.
42. Examples of GIS
- I go to Train station
- Live broadcast uses Global positioning of the
trains - I read news paper in train
- The paper on which the newspaper is printed comes
from forest which uses GIS systems - I grab a sandwich for Lunch
- Price of bread has fallen as people as using GIS
for precision agriculture - I teach GIS
- Surf Internet
- Driving Directions for vacation Planning
- GIS in a persons life
- My alarm goes off
- Utility company uses GIS to manage utility
- I jump to shower.
- Hydrologist couple modeling and GIS for water
resource management - Leave children to Bus top.
- The bus uses routing based on GIS analysis
52. GIS Application Examples
- Improving communication of Crime statistics
