Reading Intervention Goals
  • To improve each childs reading performance
  • To supplement the K-4 district reading program
  • To be a resource to teachers and parents

Qualifications for Reading Services
  • All students are screened three times per year
    (September, January and May)
  • Students qualify for the reading program based on
    local and national norms

Kindergarten Program
  • The following are used to screen kindergarteners
  • DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic
    Early Literacy Skills)
  • Initial Sound Fluency
  • Letter Naming Fluency
  • Phoneme Segmentation Fluency
  • Nonsense Word Fluency

Frequency of Kindergarten Sessions
  • Services begin in October
  • Small group setting (2-6 students)
  • 2-5 times a week for twenty to thirty minutes

Kindergarten Instructional Focus
  • Letter-Sound identification and association
  • Phonemic awareness skills
  • Writing
  • Concept of word
  • Choral reading experiences

1st Grade Program
  • The following measures are used to screen first
    graders

  • ISEL (Illinois Snapshot of Early Literacy)
  • Alphabet Recognition Upper and Lower Case
  • Story Listening Comprehension and Vocabulary
  • Phonemic Awareness Initial Consonant
  • One-to-One Matching and Word Naming
  • Letter Sounds
  • Developmental Spelling
  • Word Recognition
  • CBM (Curriculum Based Measurement)
