Origins

• Our word architecture comes from the Greek
  architecton, which means master carpenter.
• Early Greek architecture therefore employed wood,
  not stone.
• These early structures, as well as those of
  mud-brick, have not survived.

• Columns are part of Post and Lintel type
  construction
