• Tenure Track faculty have decreased from 20 to 17
  while majors have doubled from 469 to 942.
• One new faculty member has been hired for next
  year and two searches are still underway.
• Number of part-time faculty is too high (16)

• Recruit from three pools - all have high demand
• New assistant professors are receiving salaries
  above those of ACS associate professors
• More graduate students are going into industry
  instead of teaching
• One professional organizations database lists
  144 schools with at least one open position each
  and only 45 candidates seeking positions

• Several ACS faculty are likely to retire over the
  next several years
• More professors with experience are entering the
  market (and expecting high salaries)

• Space
• No new computer lab space or class rooms have
  been allocated to the department since 1995.
• 11 part-time faculty share 4 desks in a room
  housing air handling equipment.
• 12 graduate assistants share 6 small cubicles
  designed to house 1 GA each.
• Two faculty members share an office, another
  shares an office with a half-time faculty member.

Opportunities

• Fully staff and support current programs
• Expand size of programs - student and industry
  demand are both strong
• Enhance current curricula - e.g.
  telecommunications, masters program, etc.
• Add new programs - e.g. Software Engineering, web
  technologies, etc.
• Develop funded research initiatives
