Title: Plushie: An Interactive Design System for Plush Toys

1
Plushie An Interactive Design System for Plush
Toys
  • Yuki Mori Takeo IgarashiThe University of Tokyo

2
Problem to Address
  • I want to create my own plush toys!

3
Problem to Address
  • I want to create my own plush toys!
  • However, it is difficult for a non-expert to
  • design 2D pattern appropriately

4
Goal
  • We use a sketching interface for 3D modeling.
  • The Plushie system constructs
  • appropriate 2D cloth patterns
  • 3D physical simulation result

Help a user to design her/his own plush toys.

Physical Simulation
  • simple model to mimic stuffing effect.
  • First step each vertices are moved in a normal
    direction
  • Second step edge-length adjustment

Limitation
  • Our 3D pulling operation works for inter-patch
    seams
  • But not for intra-patch seams, i.e. darts.

Conclusion and Future work
17
Conclusion
  • We use a sketching interface for 3D modeling.
  • The Plushie system constructs
  • appropriate 2D cloth patterns
  • 3D physical simulation result

Help a user to design her/his own plush toys.
18
Future Work
  • prepare several predefined material parameters
and allow the user to choose the desired setting
    for each target material.
  • incorporate more domain knowledge into the system
so that an inexperienced user can design more
    sophisticated patterns.
  • develop an intelligent interface.
