Teaching/PATHO/ MAP Teresa L. Monney April 14,
2005 PATHO I wanted to discuss with you this
morning the respiratory problem that your little
girl has developed. She has tested positive for
an infection called a respiratory syncytial
virus. This particular virus occurs almost
exclusively in infants and young children and is
highest among infants from 1 to 6 months. It is
the leading cause of lower respiratory infections
which includes both pneumonia and bronchiolitis,
which the doctors have also diagnosed in your
daughter.. (Ignativicius, 2002 Patient
chart). S/S The signs and symptoms generally
vary in severity. The child can have nasal
congestion, coughing, wheezing, crankiness, sore
throat, earache, shortness of breath, and
fever.. (Ignativicius, 2002).
15
TREATMENTS The aim of treatment is to fully
support respiratory function, maintain fluid
balance, and relieve the symptoms.. (Deglin,
2003 Patient chart). PREVENTION Your little
girl is doing very well. (Ignativicius, 2002
Patient chart). References Deglin,J.H.
Vallerand, A
NOTE This is an example and general format to
be used. You may use REHABILIATION PLAN
instead of PREVENTION. Or you may need to add
LABS or TESTS that the patient may undergo.
It needs to in teaching format and personal to
that patient. Keep it to one page, single spaced
and there needs to be references.
