Design Challenge

• Motorola has sponsored a project to integrate an
  ozone detector in their cell phones.
• Our goal is to develop a chip-based Ozone (O3)
  sensing solution for mobile phone platforms.
• System would match requirements of current mobile
  phone systems.

• Researched applications and effects of ozone
• Researched options for chip-based ozone sensing
  devices
• Tested Microchemical Systems
• and SensorIC ozone sensors

Solution

• Using ozone sensors from Microchemical Systems
  (www.microchemical.com)
• Send output voltage from sensor to a
  voltage-to-frequency converter
• Send frequency to Motorola cell phone speaker to
  generate sound proportional to rising ozone
  concentrations
