    are about.

  • Developmentally
  • Interpersonally
  • Bottom line Retention!!

Why is transition is Important?

Key Ingredients to Consider
  • Program Design
  • Although it might not be possible to run a
    separate college transition component for
non-traditional students, it is possible to
incorporate ideas into your current program
    offerings

6
Program Design Cont.
  • The program design should consider your unique
    college context.
  • The program design should consider the needs of
    students.
  • Transition activities or classes should support
    the retention initiatives.

7
Program Evaluation
  • Assessment of the program should be intentional

8
Action Plan Crown College
  • Three Stages
  • Enrollment Stage
  • Orientation to Program Stage
  • Continuing Student Stage

9
Enrollment Stage
  • Enrollment Counselor
  • Information Facilitation
  • Support for the Transition

    enrollment to academics
  • Academic Considerations

Student Comment . . .
  • Thank you so much for that class. I will tell
you that Strategies is probably one of the best
classes anyone can take to be introduced to Crown
and to the adult student world. That class made
a huge difference in my view of college.
  • Dale Inman--Spring, 2006

12
Continuing Students
  • Student Support Services
  • Educational Workshops
  • Spiritual Formation

  • I wanted to share a sincere Thank You for your
involvement in my finishing my degree last night
(pending a passing grade in Thesis of course).
  • Emily was the first person I had met on my
initial visit to Crown - and after about 15
minutes I had decided I was going to finish my
bachelors at Crown. Emily had represented Crown
very well - and was sincerely excited about
adding students to the CCAP program, which really
    does excite the students.
  • Lorri was the Prof for my first class. GPA - I
had considered it to be a "fluff" class of no
real value, but Lorri made it personal and the
class ended up being a nice transition for me
personally into Crown. I still reference some of
my materials from GPA (personal goals has been
updated) - and I assure you that is not normal
for me. I also considered Lorri to be a model of
    Leadership.
  • Finally the Professors, I cannot list them all
but specifically Russ Erickson, Craig Harmon,
Dennis Ingolfsand, Laila Bechtle, Ken Volker and
Al Prentice are all not only gifted instructors,
but also wonderful people as well and you are
blessed to have them on your team.
  • Tim Duckworth
  • 2005 Graduate

  • A good transition is a connection for life- a
tie to the past, a road to the future, the key to
sanity in a totally insane world
