Can you find Thailand on the map?

These are the students at Hsa Thoo Lei School in
Thailand. These children are from Burma and live
in refugee camps. 200 children live at the
school as they may have lost their parents, or
their parents have sent them to Thailand in the
hope of safety and education.

The students that attend Hsa Thoo Lei are very
poor, they live in houses like you can see here.
The children do not have much food to eat at
lunchtime. Some may bring rice and a few
vegetables for their lunch, they will share their
lunch with friends who do not have anything to
eat at all.

This is a boy at Hsa Thoo Lei School. Do you
think he is hungry? Why?

This boy will not be hungry as he is holding a
basket full of mushrooms he has collected from
the shed behind him.

This is a mushroom shed that has already been
built at a school with help from the Thai
childrens Trust.

These are the spore bags the mushrooms grow from.
Mushrooms grow very quickly and see how many
there are! What do you think the students at Hsa
Thoo Lei can do with these mushrooms?

Could you design the students at Hsa Thoo Lei
School an allotment so they can grow other foods
to supplement their diet Typical Thai foods you
could include may be Chilli, Basil, aubergine,
courgettes, a chicken shed, a fish pond and of
course a mushroom shed.
