History

• Originally built in 1914 as a part of Moultrie
  Packing Company. The facility processed
  primarily pork, but also beef, using compressed
  ammonia as a refrigerant.
• Swift and Company purchased Moultrie Packing
  Company in 1917 and continued meat packing
  operations until a new plant was constructed in
  1970.

Swift Site Opportunities

• Over 7 acres, zoned M-1 (Light Service
  Industrial) available fronting 4-lane highway.
• Active rail spur adjacent to site.

• City utility services available.
• City has access to nearly 400,000 in grant funds
  to work on site.

Swift Site Issues

• Site currently has five different owners, both
  public and private.
• Most of the site is in process or awaiting
  remediation.

• Progress is stalling while waiting for resolution
  of liability issues regarding ground water.
• No finalized arrangements with relation to
  historic preservation of old power house
  building/fly wheel.
