UMAYC Urban Multipurpose Aboriginal Youth
Centres

• Federally funded national youth program to
  support a network of Urban Aboriginal Youth
  Centres
• Support Aboriginal youth in enhancing their
  economic, social and personal prospects
• Managed by youth for youth

UMAYC Projects

• Provides a positive, safe place for youth to meet
  and grow
• Bridges cultural and traditional knowledge from
  Elders to youth
• Mentoring and leadership development

PAYC Provincial Aboriginal Youth Council

• Started in 2000 as the youth council for the
  BCAAFC.
• Youth aged 14-24 who are involved in BC
  Friendship Centres.
• Create a healthier future for Aboriginal Youth by
  making positive changes at a local and provincial
  level.

• Voice issues and concerns of Urban Aboriginal
  Youth
• Support province-wide initiatives to benefit
  youth.
• A network of communication for youth
• Enhance capacity of local youth councils

Local Aboriginal Youth Councils

• Empower youth to make positive choices and to
  participate in community activities
• Develop leadership skills and promote healthy
  lifestyles
• Engage youth in the governance of their
  Friendship Centre

Gathering Our Voices Youth Conference

• 1000 Aboriginal Youth between the ages of 13-25
  from across the province
• Job and education fair and workshops
• Life skills training and cultural and
  entertainment activities
