FS4B - Business access to Innovation Manager

Innovation Manager
Deliver a high level diagnosis and identify the
requirements of a business Consider
best-in-class approaches to identify areas of
support. Recommend / specify tailored packages
of support which might include change management,
finance, innovation services, performance
improvement, training and other types.
Client Enquiry
Identify and scope the Businesss technology and
innovation needs and provide a problem-solving
resource to address key issues. Identify the
advantages and benefits of implementing new
technology and source preferable solutions,
advising on appropriate financial assistance.
Innovation support required
Relationship Manager facilitates meeting with
client and Innovation Manager
Funding required ?
Help prepare substantial technology proposals
addressing the technology, commercial, financial
and intellectual property issues. In addition,
thoroughly appraise, evaluate and filter similar
proposals as part of the due diligence process
for RD funding.
Single Investment Fund (SIF)
Funding application
Provide senior level project mentoring and
oversight, typically of research, product
development, technology implementation and
collaboration projects.

old grant system in Wales
  • Under the SIF umbrella there are 3

Single Investment Fund RDI
  • The Welsh flavour of the UK wide SMART RD
    funding scheme.
  • Four phases of support available within SIF RDI
  • Technical Commercial Feasibility (TCF)
  • Industrial Research (IR)
  • Pre Competitive Development (PCD)
  • Exploitation
  • Following Relationship Manager referral,
    Innovation Managers work
  • with clients to help determine the most
    appropriate phase/s of support
  • and assist in proposal preparation.

SIF Technical Commercial Feasibility (TCF)
  • Assessment of the technical commercial
    feasibility of a proposed innovative concept.
  • Deliverable A comprehensive TCF report.
  • 75 grant to a max. of 15,000.
  • Approval cycle 25 working days.

SIF Industrial Research (IR)
  • Planned research for the purpose of acquiring new
    knowledge that allows for a New Product
    Development activity.
  • Deliverable Basic Working Model / Proof of
    Concept
  • 70 or 60 grant to a max. of 100,000.
  • Available to non SMEs at a lower rate.
  • Staged payments. Quarterly in arrears.
  • Collaborative RD projects supported at higher
    rate.

SIF Pre Competitive Development (PCD)
  • Formulation design of products leading to
    demonstration or pilot projects.
  • Deliverable Pre production prototype not to be
    used commercially.
  • 45 or 35 grant to a max. 200,000.
  • Available to non SMEs at a lower rate.
  • Staged payments. Quarterly in arrears.
  • Collaborative RD projects supported at higher
    rate.
  • Grant can exceed 200,000 for Exceptional
    projects.
  • Mini PCD upto 25,000 grant for Design
    Development only projects.

SIF Exploitation
  • To assist with the exploitation costs of a new
    product or process.
  • Can include Marketing / Publicity / Advertising /
    Trade Shows / Product Certification etc.
  • 50 grant to a max. 20,000.
  • Only available if undertaken a previous SIF RDI
    phase.
  • Only available to SMEs.

Innovation Credit (IC) Funding
  • Funding to assist in the development of new
    products.
  • Support typically for third party expertise ie.
    prototyping, model making, design expertise etc.
  • 50 funded to a max grant of 1,500.
  • Funding decision typically within 10 working days.

Intellectual Property (IP) Credit Funding
Support
  • Previously run by IP Wales at Swansea
    University.
  • Funding for Patents, Trade Marks, Designs and
    Licenses.
  • A range of funding at 50 upto approx. 20,000.
