Title: Youth Tobacco Cessation Collaborative (YTCC)
1Youth Tobacco Cessation Collaborative (YTCC)
- Formed in 1998 to address youth tobacco cessation
gaps - Goal, ensure that every youth tobacco user
(ages 12-24) has access to appropriate and
effective cessation interventions by the year
2010.
2Why Focus on Youth for Tobacco Cessation?
- 25 of high school students smoked a whole
cigarette before age 13 - Almost 87 of all adult smokers started smoking
when were teenagers - 40 of youth indicated interest in receiving help
to quit smoking - 3 out of 4 teenage smokers have tried to quit at
least once -- and failed - Almost 2 out of 3 youth wish they had never
started smoking!

- CTCRI, CDC, NCI, Legacy determine best
practices for youth tobacco cessation - Steve Sussman review of 66 studies (Tobacco
Induced Diseases 1(1)35-81, 2002) - YTCC convened evidence review group to expand on
