- Graduation Requirements
- Starting with the class of 2008, all Washington
public high school graduates must fulfill the
following four statewide requirements as
determined by the State Board of Education - complete a Culminating Project
- craft a High School and Beyond Plan
- pass a minimum number of credits in high school
- classes
- earn a Certificate of Academic Achievement
- Students in the Tahoma School District must
complete a total of 22 credits towards
graduation.
3Certificate of Academic Achievement (CAA)
- Signifies students met statewide reading,
writing, and math standards on the 10th-grade
WASL by the end of H.S. - Helps ensure all WA students get a foundation of
essential skills
4H.S. Beyond Plan
- Students detail plans for
- meeting H.S. graduation requirements
- identifying their next step(s) after high school
(e.g. college, technical training, military
service or work).
5Culminating Project
- Encourages students to think analytically,
logically and creatively and to integrate
experience and knowledge to solve problems - Gives students a chance to explore a topic in
which they have great interest - Offers students an opportunity to apply their
learning in a real world way
6What YOU can do to help your teen succeed
- Connect academics with their future. Share
examples from your own job. - Discuss plans for after high school.
- Set goals for H.S. and the future.
- Be involved in course selection. Help your
student draft a four year plan. - Discuss time management as it relates to course
work and homework load (see page 13 in the Course
Catalog).
