• The diet coke has carbon dioxide forced into it
  when it is made at the factory. The carbon
  dioxide molecules are held in a suspension where
  the coke particles surround them in a grid,
  holding them and stopping them coming together to
  form carbon dioxide gas bubbles.

What Is Happening
Introducing a Mentos mints introduces surface
imperfections that the trapped carbon dioxide
latches on to. The carbon dioxide now forms
bubbles that rise very quickly through the Coke.
They take a lot of the coke with them.

How This Looks
What happens when you drop a full packet of mints
into a two litre bottle of diet coke?

What You Have To Do

• The secret to producing an impressive fountain is
  getting as many mints into the diet coke as
  quickly as possible and stopping them clumping
  together at the bottom of the bottle. But you
  need to be able to do this from a safe distance
  so you dont get covered in diet coke.
• Your task is to design and make a system that
  will do this then use your system to set off a
  diet coke fountain.

How Could You Design Your System
Divide it up into a number of bits, for example
A way of stopping the mints forming a lump at the
bottom of the bottle.
A way of activating the device from a distance.
A way of putting the mints into the bottle
quickly.
Bring all these bits together into one system

If you have succeeded with the first fountain now
try adding holes to the bottle above the top of
the diet coke and see what happens.
