The French and Indian War
  • The French and Indian War was started in
1754 and ended in 1763. It was caused by people
fighting over French land. It caused the British
army to start a nine year war with the French and
Indian soldiers. The French and Indian side
still lost to the British army. The effect was
that the cost of the war had greatly enlarged
    Britain's debt.

The Proclamation of 1763
  • The Proclamation of 1763 was started
because of the British leaders wanting no more
wars with other people. This law was saying that
no one could settle west of the Appalachians.
The land west of the Appalachians would remain
the Indians territory. Owning land was important
to the settlers. If you owned land you where
allowed to vote. If you had no land you had no
position in society. Many people just ignored
the law. To watch the colonists King George had
ten thousand British soldiers watch the colonists
and make sure that they didnt pass the
    Appalachian Mountains.

The Stamp Act
  • The parliament passed the stamp Act in 1765.
The colonists rebelled and rioted. The British
were taxing everybody on all legal documents.
    Everything was taxed like newspapers,
advertisement, even playing cards. The colonist
reacted with rage. The colonial merchants
organized a boycott of all British goods. Some
people from the American colonies started secret
societies and they called themselves the Sons of
    Liberty.

5
Townshend Acts
  • The Townshend Acts was passed in 1767 and it was
a law that taxed on paper, lead, glass, paint and
on tea. The kings finance minister, Charles
Townshend made the law. He was no friend of the
colonists because, he said that he had a way to
tax the colonies with offence. The colonists
also found out that the extra duties were
actually excuses to raise revenue. The colonists
started to boycott all British goods.

6
The Boston Massacre
  • The Boston Massacre happen in 1770. The Boston
Massacre was all started when angry colonists
started throwing snowballs at the group of
soldiers in front of the Boston Customhouse. One
soldier slipped and fell and his gun shot off.
Then another soldier got nervous and started
shooting. The other soldiers started firing too.
The sad part of this story was that five people
where killed including Crispus Attucks a former
    slave.

7
The Tea Act
  • The Tea Act was Started in 1773. It was a act
aimed to help the British east India Company by
giving it total control on the American tea
trade. This tea would be even cheaper than
smuggled tea. However the colonists still had to
    pay tax on tea.

8
The Boston Tea Party
  • The Boston Tea Party was in 1773. It was when
the American colonists, dressed as the Mohawk
Indians starting dumping tea into the Boston
Harbor. Benjamin Franklin even said that he
would pay for the tea that was dumped into the
Boston Harbor. He asked for the British to
    repeal the Tea Act.

9
The Intolerable Acts
  • The Intolerable Acts happened in 1774. It was
when the they closed the port of Boston. They
allowed British officials commanders troops to
stay wherever necessary. They greatly restricted
    representative government in Massachusetts. They
allowed the British officials to stand trail if
they where accused of a crime.
