Foundations

• A foundation is the foremost essential part of a
  building or structure. A foundation is a
  structure that transmits loads from a building to
  the ground. In most buildings, foundations extend
  underground. For large buildings, foundations are
  often set as deeply into the earth as is
  possible. Types of foundations include, pier and
  beam foundations, piles, slab on grade
  foundations and below frost line foundations.
  The primary dangers that face foundations are
  ground movement and uneven ground support.
  Flowing water and erosion can remove soil around
  a foundation and cause the foundation to become
  unsupported or even cause complete foundation
  failure. In tropical climates, changes in soil
  moisture can negatively impact foundations,
  causing the foundations to distort or crack. Like
  the age old saying, the foundation is the most
  important part of a building or structure. It
  solidifies the building and maintains the base of
  everything. Without a solidly constructed
  foundation, buildings will be destroyed very
  easily
