Panels
  • The purpose of the Panels is to help level-set
the playing field for those who wish to
    participate in the Working Group
  • Each panel member should talk about the topic
within the GEOSS context and highlight his/her
    perception of
  • The current state-of-the practice
  • Leverage points and enablers
  • Constraints
  • Issues
  • Chairpersons should
  • Introduce each panel member
  • Endeavor to keep discussion within the GEOSS
    context
  • Ask questions to stimulate discussion about the
    four areas listed above
  • Allow the audience to participate
  • Summarize the discussion at the end

3
Working Group Overview
  • Based on current registration numbers, expect
10-20 people to included in your working group
  • This template is a waveguide it describes the
type of results that we would like to see and
provides a standard method to report on them
your groups deliberations may take you in
    another direction
  • Remember, goal of working group is to collect,
    integrate and categorize information consensus
    is NOT required.
  • Use the high-level value stream as a starting
point (you can delete the other 3)
  • Revise/update the value stream into its own
    context
  • Generate an IPO diagram for each step in the
    value stream
  • Creating a Domain Collaboration Diagram may be
    difficult
  • Start at 50,000 ft level and decompose as
    required.
  • Remember, the goal is to identify the entities
and to characterize the interface between
    entities
  • Brainstorm potential Use Cases
  • Categorize them, complete Table
  • Try to fill out Use Case Template for key use
    cases
  • Brainstorm and vote (use dots) on
  • Standards, Constraints, Issues, Enablers
  • Characterize the Importance/Relevance of the Top 3

4
Working Groups Thursday
  • Suggested Working Group Choreography (Thursday)
  • Complete review/revision of high-level value
stream (entire working group) session (130
    230)
  • Breakout into subgroups (separate tables) to
generate the following artifacts (230 330)
  • IPO Diagrams
  • Domain Collaboration Diagram(s)
  • Use Cases List/Examples
  • Reconvene entire working group to review inputs
    (330 400)
  • Report out to Plenary (400 500)
  • Summary of Deliberations key results,
    identification of gaps
  • 15 Minutes per Working Group (maximum)
  • Homework Think about todays deliberation and
    consider appropriate standards, constraints,
    issues and enablers

5
Working Groups Friday
  • Suggested Working Group Choreography (Friday)
  • Record comments on yesterdays results (entire
    working group) session (930 1000)
  • Break (1000 1015)
  • Brainstorm and vote (entire working group) on
    Standards, Constraints, Issues and Enablers
    (1015 1115, 15 minutes each)
  • Breakout into subgroups (separate tables) to
generate input on relevance/importance of top
three in each category (1115 1200)
  • Standards
  • Constraints
  • Issues
  • Enablers
  • Working Lunch (entire working group) discussion
and updates to outbrief template (1200 100)
  • Working Group Outbrief to Plenary (100 300)
  • 30 Minutes per Working Group maximum
  • Provide high-level review of deliberations

  • Identify key result, areas of consensus and areas
where difference of opinion still exist

Feedback on the GEOSS Value Stream
  • Value Stream does not reflect a closed system
diagram needs to reflect feedback loops
  • Value Stream does not capture the economic flow
  • Value Stream does not reflect an interaction with
    the business case(s)
  • Value stream does not capture the metrics/quality
    management flow
  • Requirements drives should be the markets/users
