• Voluntary blood donations program is a
  traditional activity within health programs and
  as such a part of Strategic plan of the Red Cross
  Society of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Description of RC activities within Voluntary
blood donations program

• Voluntary blood donations program is a
  traditional program within RC activities.
• Blood donations are voluntary, anonymous and
  free of charge.
• Basic task of the program is promotion and
  spreading the blood donors movement in
  partnership with competent government
  institutions, centers for blood transfusion and
  other institutions important for the movement.

Current situation

• Red Cross organizes actions of blood donations on
  the territory of BiH through its network of
  organizations ( 20 cantonal/regional, 144 LRC)
  activists and volunteers, with different scope
  and success.
• Because of insufficient funds for program
  implementation, number of blood donors is
  decreasing.
• There is not any national strategy for blood
  donations. Authorities and competent institutions
  are not interested in this program.

GOALS

• Final goal
• Collect sufficient quantities of healthy blood on
  the territory of BiH.
• Sub- goals
• Raising awareness among population, particularly
  young people, about the importance of blood
  donations through campaigns of public health
  education.
• Animating and recruitment of voluntary blood
  donors.
• Marking of the Day of voluntary blood donors
• Preserving continuous number of current blood
  donors on the territory of BiH
• Increasing the number of blood units
• Increasing the number of blood donors
• Improving the image of Red Cross
