Workforce Shortage
- The Nurse Reinvestment Act was expanded in 2002
to include Nursing Workforce Development (Title
VIII, Public Health Service Act), in order to
create new and expanded programs targeted to
resolving the nursing workforce shortage. - Every year Congress funds
- Title VIII programs through
- the appropriations process.

9Title VIII Program Outcomes
- Title VIII programs administered by HRSA provide
the largest source of federal funding that assist
students, schools of nursing, and health systems
in their efforts to recruit, educate, and retain
registered nurses. - In FY 2008, Nursing Workforce Development
Programs assisted at least 51,657 students in
obtaining their nursing education through
individual student support and programmatic
support.
