7Epidemiologic Situation
- One new case reported this week. Case is P1 from
Gedarif State, ElRahd locality with date of onset
10/04/2005. The child is 3 years old and
received 6 OPV doses. - Five cases are pending ITD from Gedarif P2 (1),
Khartoum P3 (1), South Kordofan P3 (1), Kassala
P3 (1), White Nile P2P3 (1) in addition to one
contact from Gezeira (P2P3). Preliminary
information from the laboratory indicate that
they are all sabin like. - The number of infected States are still 18
States. - The total confirmed polio cases since the start
of the outbreak is 152 - 140 in north and 12 in south Sudan
- 149 P1 cases and 3 P3 cases
- The confirmed cases with onset in 2005 is 25
cases. - North 21 P1 cases from
- Kassala (5), Blue Nile (2), Bahr El Gabal (1),
Gedarif (5) White Nile (1), Sennar (2), Unity (2)
and Upper Nile(1), Khartoum (1), West Kordofan
(1) - South 4 P1 cases from
- Upper Nile (Unity)

- In early 2005, the virus circulation seemed to be
concentrated in upper Nile region in South Sudan
and in the eastern areas of the country
(bordering Eritrea and Ethiopia). Also one case
appeared in each of Khartoum and West Kordofan in
the fourth week of March
8Important Recent Activities
- Preparation for May round (24-26 May) is
on-going. - Microplans were updated
- Campaign support staff in place
- Khartoum (2), West Kordofan (1), Red Sea (1),
White Nile (1), Gedarif (1) and North Darfur (1). - Finger markers distributed to all States on time.
- Training on-going.
- Funds were transferred to Sudan
