1Directions for Writing Closed-Captioning for DE

2Log into Discovery Education Streaming
3Click on Advanced Search
4Select Closed Captioning along with your other
descriptors
5Choose the video you want to use(make sure you
see CC)
6Click on Media Settings
7Choose Windows Media Player, Click Close
Captioning and Save
8Right-click on the Download icon and choose Save
Target As to save the .asf file.
9Right-click on the cc icon and choose Save
Target As to download the .smi file. (Use the
exact same name for the two files and put them in
the same folder.)
10Open the Windows Media Player program by going
to Start - Programs - Windows Media Player
11In the Navigation bar, click on Tools and open
Options
If you do not see the tools click here and on
the pull-down menu, click show classic menu.
12Click on Tools - Options
13Click on the Security Tab.Under Content,
choose Run script commands when present and
Show local captions when present. Click OK.
It is possible that you may not have access to
the Security tab . You may have to contact your
technology administrator
14File Open Your Saved Video File
15You should see the closed-caption play as
soon as the narrator begins speaking.Now its
time to edit the written words.
16- Right-click on your downloaded .smi file and
click on Open With Notepad - It may appear with a real player r icon

18Highlight and change the font size and/or color
Highlight and then edit, change, add text.
19Youre almost done.
- Save changes
- Close the .smi file
- Open the .asf file to view your edited movie
