• The approved budget for the last 4 years has not
  allowed for adequate maintenance of the 8 school
  buildings.
• Custodial and maintenance budgets are first areas
  reviewed during budget cuts resulting in improper
  maintenance of buildings which affects learning
  environment.
• Capital Plan incorporates all items outside of
  normal maintenance functions. Its funded in two
  ways extraordinary maintenance line and
  submission of separate funding articles to Town
  Meeting.

• Believe it or not, facilities works off of  1 of
  the total budget for the maintenance of 27
  schools. Preventative maintenance suffers and
  only corrective maintenance is done when
  something catastrophic happens.
• In order to run a school system the size of
  Brockton at least 5 of the total budget should
  be devoted to Facilities.
• Even with the increase in fuel costs we are very
  energy efficient. All of the schools are
  monitored through an Energy Management system
  that we control saving thousands of dollars on
  fuel costs. We are one of the more advanced
  school systems in the state.
