THE CHILD STUDY ( 40 of the FINAL
GRADE) This is a big piece of work! It starts
in the Summer term of Y10 and continues
through Y11 It involves a detailed study of the
development of one child aged between 1 and 4
years. The child must be under 5 when the
study ends. It would be helpful if students have
a child in mind before starting the
course. You will need to be able to visit the
child regularly, so one who lives locally is
ideal.

THE RESEARCH TASK (20)

• This will be carried out under
• supervision in the classroom.
• You will be given approximately 7 hrs.
• You will research an area relevant to
• the child you are studying.
• Possible areas of research include-
• safety in the childs environment,
• care during pregnancy, the childs diet and
• types of pre school care.
