• The powers given to the President are broad.
  Command armed forces, make treaties, grant
  pardons.
• The term executive power is a very loose term.

• The unity of the Presidency has strengthened
  power.
• As technology and industry has grown the people
  have demanded a larger role of the Federal
  Government.
• The use of decisive and extraordinary action in
  times of national emergency.

• The many laws passed by Congress have been given
  to the Federal Government to execute.
• The use of the mass media to promote policy by
  Presidents.

• Two views are prevalent.
• The strong view states that the President has
  many powers in order to be effective.
• Opponents of this view think the President works
  without the consent of Congress.
• The weak view states that the President should
  only have basic powers.
