CONSUMABLES - POL
M1A1 POL CONSUMPTION RATES / HOUR
  • NOTES
  • The above mentioned POL are those with the
    highest consumption rates
  • The M1A1 has a 1910L fuel tank, this will last
for 8 hours at idle and up to 12 hours when
moving, (the turbine engine burns less fuel and
more oxygen at high revs whilst moving)
  • The M1A1 has an External Auxiliary Power Unit
(EAPU). The EAPU is essentially a small generator
which enables the M1A1 to operate all weapon and
targeting systems, including the thermal image
system in static roles at greatly reduced fuel
    consumption over prolonged periods.
  • Jetoil 2 consumption can also be provisioned
using the following formula 2 quarts / tank /
    day.
  • FRH consumption can also be provisioned using the
following formula 5 litres / tank / week.
  • Grease consumption can also be provisioned using
the following formula 3 cartridges / tank /
    week.
  • 15W40 consumption can also be provisioned using
the following formula 10 litres / tank / week.

THE M88A2 USES 3 L DEISO / KM AND HAS A 1563L

  • THE TTF-A IS THE PREFERRED OPTION FOR REFUELLING
THE M1A1 AND M88A2 DUE TO ITS FASTER PUMP AND
    BETTER FUEL FILTRATION SYSTEM.

AMMUNITION
RECOMMENDED PRE H-HOUR AMMO HOLDINGS (RNDS)
  • Notes
  • Tank Crewmen are to be supplied small arms
ammunition (9mm 5.56 loose) in accordance with
    extant holdings.
  • The above A1 and A2 holdings require 17 and 52
    pallet spaces, respectively, to carry.
  • Whilst a Mack is usually capable of carrying 10
pallets, if it is being used to replen MA1As
directly only 6 pallets can be packed on it in
order to allow space for pers to unload
ammunition and hand off to tank crewmen. (see
    fig1)
  • 120mm ammunition comes in a 30rnd wine rack
whereby each round is pressure sealed into a tube
that should only be opened immediately prior to
loading it onto the tank. (see fig2)
  • A planning weight of 700kg per 30rnd wine rack
should be used when loading 120mm ammo on other
    platforms

    MACK truck
  • wine racks are to be positioned facing
forward/backward so that 120mm ammo cam be
unloaded within the confines of the trucks tray.
  • all ammunition handling/unloading is to occur on
the tray of the truck in order to avoid crush
injuries if/when Tanks touch side of truck.
  • only when tanks have halted beside the truck is
it safe to step across to the Tank and cross load
    ammo.

AMMUNITION TSNs
  • Notes
  • 12.7 mm (AIMTESS) are rounds that are
ballistically matched to 120mm natures out to
2000m. They are fired for training purposed from
an assembly that fits inside the M1A1s Breech.
  • 7.62mm ammunition should, where possible, be
ordered in 235rnd (M19)liners. This is because
the stowage positions inside the Tank as well as
the loaders and coax MGs only take this
    size/shape liner.

RESUPPLY PLANNING
1 ARMD REPLEN PROCEDURES LINEAR REPLEN
  • A LINEAR REPLEN CAN BE TAILORED FOR THE SIZE OF
THE ELEMENT BEING RESUPPLIED, THE BELOW LINEAR
REPLEN IS APPROPRIATE TO REPLEN A SQN IN ONE HOUR
  • A LINEAR REPLEN CAN BE CONDUCTED ON A ROAD OR IN
A GREEN-FIELD ENVIRONMENT (WITHIN THE CROSS
COUNTRY LIMITATIONS OF FULLY LADEN MACKS)
  • THE TP SGT, SSM OR RSM OF THE ELEMENT CONDUCTING
THE REPLEN SHOULD RV WITH LOG ELEMENTS PRIOR TO
THE REPLEN OCCURING IN ORDER TO SITE THE LINEAR
REPLEN TAKING ALL SUPPLY AND TACTICAL
CONSIDERATIONS SUCH AS LIKELY ENEMY APPROACH AND
    SPACING INTO ACCOUNT
  • TTF-A SHOULD BE USED TO REFUEL ON LINEAR REPLENS
WHERE POSSIBLE DUE TO THEIR FASTER PUMPING
    CAPACITY
  • THE LOADING OF AMMUNITION IS GENERALLY THE
    SLOWEST PART OF THE REPLEN

WATER RATS
SQ/GARBAGE
  • A CURBSIDE REPLEN IS SIMILAR TO A LINEAR REPLEN,
HOWEVER IT ONLY OCCURS OFF THE SIDE OF AN
ESTABLISTED TRACK AND TANKS ONLY PASS TO ONE SIDE
OF THE RESUPPLY ELEMENT. (CURBSIDE REPLENS
    USUALLY OCCUR INA NON-TACTICAL ENVIRONMENT)

18
RESUPPLY PLANNING
1 ARMD REPLEN PROCEDURES BATTLE REPLEN
  • A BATTLE REPLEN IS A REPLEN POINT ESTABLISTED
BEHIND TANKS IN-CONTACT, ONE TANK OR ONE SECTION
PULLS OUT OF CONTACT AT A TIME AND CONDUCTS A
PIT STOP STYLE REPLEN OF FUEL AND AMMO
  • A BATTLE REPLEN CAN BE CONDUCTED ANYWHERE
NECESSARY (WITHIN THE CROSS COUNTRY LIMITATIONS
    OF FULLY LADEN MACKS)
  • THE TP SGT/SSM OF THE ELEMENT CONDUCTING THE
BATTLE REPLEN SHOULD SITE, COORDINATE AND MANAGE
THE SECURITY OF THE BATTLE REPLEN
  • IT IS BETTER TO CONDUCT SEVERAL TP/SQN SIZED
BATTLE REPLENS BEHIND THE FLOT, AS A SINGLE LARGE
REPLEN WILL CAUSE CONJESTION, CONFUSION AND
UNNECESSARY LATERAL MOVEMENT BEHIND THE FLOT.
  • TTF-A SHOULD BE USED TO REFUEL ON BATTLE REPLENS
WHERE POSSIBLE DUE TO THEIR FASTER PUMPING
CAPACITY. (IF MULTIPLE TTF ARE AVAILABLE THEY
    SHOULD BE USED CONCURRENTLY)

RESUPPLY PLANNING
1 ARMD REPLEN PROCEDURES IN HIDE REPLEN
  • AN IN HIDE REPLEN AIMS TO MINIMISE TANK MOVEMENT
BY MOVING ALL RESUPPLY ASSETS TO STATIC TANKS
  • AN IN HIDE REPLEN CAN BE CONDUCTED ANYWHERE
NECESSARY (WITHIN THE CROSS COUNTRY LIMITATIONS
    OF FULLY LADEN MACKS)
  • THE TP SGT/SSM OF THE ELEMENT CONDUCTING THE IN
HIDE REPLEN SHOULD DIRECT THE REPLEN
  • IN HIDE REPLENS ARE AN EXTREMELY SLOW WAY TO
    CONDUCT REPLENS

FBCB2 / BFT
  • Two major capabilities that the M1A1 and M88A2
Platforms posses are the Force XX1 Battle Command
Brigade and Below (FBCB2) and Blue Force Tracker
    (BFT)
  • FBCB2 / BFT is a live satellite based
communication and tracking system which affords
unprecedented situational awareness to the M1A1
    and M88A2 platforms

21
(No Transcript)
22
FBCB2 / BFT
  • 1 Armd Regt has the capability to link portable
    (non-vehicle mounted) FBCB2 / BFT systems into
    another unit/BG HQ if required.
  • For FBCB2 / BFT to work it requires L-Band
satellite coverage, at present L-Band coverage
exists over Australia, North America and all
    major US theatres of operation.
