Mental Health
- Secure non-evacuated facilities
- Secure safety and security of patients and staff
and communicate to responsible family
member/party - Organize and deliver food, water, diesel and
other commodities - Relocate patients and clients inland
- Reassign staff
7Steps Taken by the Mississippi Department of
Mental Health
- Establish a daily situation report on all DMH
activities forwarded to Governor, Lt. Governor,
Legislature State and Federal, and general
public through website. Governor Haley Barbour
or his staff assistant were in daily and
continuous contact with DMH officials offering
assistance and facilitating response to the
departments urgent requests. Governor Haley
Barbours office was the glue that held the
fabric of Mississippis government together
during these trying times.

- Periodic updates given to various media outlets
on ongoing needs or accomplishments - Coordinate requests for and from
volunteers/consumer organizations - Transfer/repatriate patients and clients

- Work with FEMA to assess buildings and damage
- Work with SAMSHA and FEMA to secure relief funds
- Express appreciation to all persons who provided
aid to Mississippi
