2- The ensure the security of our nation, the ICT
infrastructure of the future will need to be a
pervasive, massively distributed system that will
provide the maximum possible information and
computational support to everyone who needs it.
3- The Public Health Information Highway is like a
multi-lane road, with each agency traveling in
its own lane. Each one has different
vocabularies, making it very difficult to change
lanes.
Luis Kun, National Defense University and DOD
4- Similar problems occur in other agencies.
- CCU has at least five definitions in the
documents I use - Coronary Care Unit
- Communications Control Unit
- Caribean Conversion Unit
- Correctional Custody Unit
- Computer Crime Unit
- (and even the) Constitution Code of Ukraine

8- Our view of how humans interact with computers
has been shifting from an emphasis on the
hardware and software processes that consume data
toward recognizing the power of data itself.

10- The ICT infrastructure of the future will make
use of intelligent agents and automated tools
that will orchestrate a wide variety of web
services with access to a vast network of
resources.

12- The network of resources will be made of smart
data based on standards for data exchange among
different systems and agencies, and of Semantic
Web technologies that will enable semantic
interoperability and efficient resource discovery.

of XML, Web Services, and Knowledge Management,

14What is smart data?
- It is data that is able to interact with other
data in flexible, useful ways. - It is data that has access to logic, and to a
background ontology, to give it context and
meaning. - Smart data is what the Semantic Web will provide.
- Data standardization must be held for the common
good.
Michael Daconta, McDonald Bradley
15- Once Web documents are aimed for machine or
program consumption, instead of human
consumption, the full potential of the Semantic
Web will be realized.
16Guzman, NJ, IEEE Engineering in Medicine and
Biology Magazine, Jan/Feb 2004
17- It is only a matter of time before Semantic Web
technologies and the Semantic Web become
essential components of our nations Homeland
Security infrastructure.
