students to help them become proficient readers.

as part of their regular reading rotations and in
her own classroom for special reading sessions.

Meet Miss Johnson

education and corporate journalism from Auburn
    University
  • Masters degree in reading education from Auburn
    University
  • Currently pursuing a Ph.D in reading.
  • Experience
  • Taught first and second grades.

4
Miss Johnsons Goals
  • To help all Richland students become proficient
    readers and writers.
  • To provide resources (books, training,
strategies, etc.) to parents to assist them as
they help their children become proficient
    readers and writers.

5
What is Title I?
  • Section 1001 of the Title I Act says
  • The purpose of this program is to ensure that all
children have a fair, equal and significant
opportunity to obtain a high quality education
and to reach, at a minimum, proficiency on
challenging state academic standards and state
    academic assessments.

6
How do we accomplish this?
  • High quality academic assessments
  • Teacher professional development and training
  • Instructional materials that align with state and
    academic standards
  • Meeting the educational needs of low-achieving
students in the area of reading/language arts
  • Improve parental and community involvement
  • Provide an enriched and accelerated intervention
    program

7
  • Ensuring that children have access to effective,
    research-based instructional strategies and
    challenging academic content
  • Coordinating services with other agencies that
offer assistance to youth, children and families
  • Collaboration with all stakeholders

8
Who receives Title I services?
  • Students performing below grade level in reading
will receive intensive intervention on specific
    reading skills.
  • Students who need this intervention may be
identified through DIBELS testing or recommended
    by the classroom teacher.
  • Because we are a school-wide Title I school, any
Richland student is eligible to receive
  • Title I services.

9
Parental Involvement in Title I Reading
  • The success of our Title I reading program
depends on strong partnerships among students,
    parents and teachers.
  • To support our team effort, we expect parents to
    attend conferences, communicate regularly with
teachers, and help their children with homework
    and reading each night.

10
Together, we can help all of our students become
Richland Reading Champions!
