13
What if I cannot complete enough units to claim
my NVQ?
  • NVQs are very flexible qualifications. They allow
you to achieve recognition for what you have
already achieved even if you do not finish the
    full qualification.
  • We have systems in place which allow you to be
awarded a certificate listing the unit (or units)
you have achieved even if you are unable to
    complete the full NVQ.

14
Each unit describes exactly
  • what you need to do
  • what you need to know and understand and
  • the evidence you need to provide to prove you are
    competent to the standard specified.

15
What is evidence?
  • Evidence is your proof that you meet the
    requirements of this NVQ.

16
Evidence can be anything that proves
  • what you can do
  • how well you do it
  • the level of knowledge you have in relation to
    what you do and
  • the level of understanding you have about what
you do, how you do it, and why you do it.

17
Types of evidence
  • Observation
  • video recordings or records of your assessor
observing you carrying out your work.
  • Product evidence
  • schedules and diaries you use to manage your work
  • information you have researched, processed and
    presented

18
  • Question and answers
  • Your assessor can also supply evidence (through
their records of assessment for example,
observations they have carried out and/or your
responses to questions they have asked you).
  • Witness testimony
  • statements from witnesses
  • Personal statements/storyboards
  • Things that you describe

19
People involved in the process
  • The most important person is you
  • I am your assessor and will guide you
  • Roz Cowell is the Internal Verifier
  • Kath Jasper is your External Verifier
  • Penny is always on hand to help
  • Your supervisor and colleagues play a very
    important part in the process

20
Proxy quals
  • Proxy qualifications are certificates you may
have achieved in other subjects that you may be
able to use to claim a unit
