    Moree Plains Shire.
  • Our area is 17852km sq in total plus the towns of
    Warialda Bingara
  • Our population is approx 19454 people
  • It consists of 88 are Australian citizens and
    19.4 of the population being Aboriginal.

    of education of tenancy, drug alcohol abuse and
    domestic violence..

    NSW Temporary Accommodation and Moree Family
    Support Youth Homeless Project.

Local Infrastructure
  • In our area we have a number of services that we
    work closely with. Ngala Womens Refuge, Moree
    Family Support Youth Homeless Project, Inverell
    Community Housing, Housing NSW, Centacare, Moree
    TAFE.

Gaps
  • Whilst there are numerous services in Moree,
    there are many gaps due to services such as
    mental health, drug and alcohol services and DoCS
    fail to attract staff reducing their ability to
    provide the necessary services.

  • Our aims Objectives
  • Ensure that people who are homeless have access
    to services so that the term of homelessness is
    reduced to a minimum and ensure any positive
    outcomes are able to be maintained.
  • Ensure that mainstream policies and services are
    focused on preventing people from becoming
    homeless.
  • Address current deficiencies in services and
    accommodation, including long term housing for
    people or at risk of homelessness.

Service History
  • Byamee Proclaimed Opened in 1984. When funding
    was cut for Proclaimed places in 2002, Byamee
    identified the gap for those that were homeless
    or at risk when then through SAAP funding started
    trading as Byamee Homeless Persons Support Team.
  • Over the years we have developed our own living
    skills program with medium term accommodation
    attached as well as the Inspire the Desire Work
    experience Program

Byamee Now
  • We provide crises accommodation, case management,
    The living Skills program in medium term or
    independent accommodation, The Inspire the Desire
    Program, The Rent It Keep It course, Group or
    School Education Program and Operate a basic food
    bank.
  • How many staff? 3 fulltime and 1 part time
  • How many centres? 1
  • Hours of operation 8.30am-5.00pm Monday to Friday
    plus after hours emergency on call.

Your service The Future
  • Plans for the future include continuing to better
    our current programs. We also increase public
    awareness education on homelessness and
    associated issues.
