Time to See!

• Allow extra time for the hearing impaired child
  to watch your lips look at the material, then
  proceed.

Seating

• Think about where your student is sitting.
• Can he see
• your mouth,
• the materials,
• and the other speakers
• at the same time???

Visual Cues

• Any visual cues will support the hearing impaired
  childs understanding!

Talking to WHO?

• Turn your face toward the hearing impaired child
  as you speak. He can then read your lips.

• Show the hearing impaired child who is speaking.

• Point to the child who is speaking.
• Bring the speaker to the front.
• Say the speakers name.
• Use a talking stick.

• Send home anything that will help the parents
  know what the child did at school.

• Check the hearing impaired student for his
  understanding of your directions.

I Cant See What Youre Saying!

• The hearing impaired child cannot see your lips
  as you write on the marker board. Write on the
  board, then turn and talk about it.

I Hear Something!

• Remember, your hearing impaired child can hear
  some sounds but not all of them.
• Example If you say sand he may hear and.

Did someone say something?

• The hearing impaired child may not hear some of
  the girls high pitched voices at all.

Noise!

• Be aware of any external noise and try to
  eliminate it if possible.
• (Example pencil sharpeners, fans, air
  conditioners, etc.)

FM SYSTEMS

• Most hearing impaired students benefit from some
  type of FM System.
• This is a device which boosts the teachers
  voice.
