• Using U 500 insulin means-
• Taking a very concentrated form of insulin that
  is 5 times stronger than U 100.
• A change in the syringe you use to draw up your
  correct dose.

• DO NOT USE a U 100 syringe!!
• U 100 syringes can cause a dangerous hypoglycemic
  (low blood sugar) reaction!!

When Using U 500 Insulin

• ALWAYS USE TUBERCULIN SYRINGES!!

Drawing Up U 500 Insulin

• Dont be confused!
• A tuberculin syringe is marked in ml from .1 ml
  to 1.00 ml
• Draw up your insulin according to the number of
  ml ordered.
• Practice using the right syringe and drawing up
  your correct dose.

• Remember to only use Tuberculin syringes !
• Your primary care provider will order tuberculin
  syringes for you when U500 insulin is ordered.

• DO NOT USE
• U 100 syringes
• This can cause a dangerous hypoglycemic reaction
