The Ontario Catholic School Graduate
Expectations

• Developed by the Institute for Catholic Education
  in consultation with all the stakeholders in
  Catholic Education
• Provide an image of the learner with descriptors
  outlining life roles, knowledge, skills and
  attitudes
• Provide a distinctive expectation that the
  Catholic community has for graduates of Catholic
  secondary schools

Catholic Elementary Schools

• Students are engaged in their own faith journey
• Journey Activities were developed to articulate
  and illuminate the relationship between the
  Ontario Curriculum and Ontario Catholic School
  Graduate Expectations for use in the elementary
  program
• Provide application of the above in terms of
  learning activities
• Provide a variety of age appropriate
  opportunities to sustain the learner on the path

• The Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations
  are foundational to all curriculum planning
  including
• - Secondary School Course Profiles
• - Provincially developed Elementary Units
• The Journey Activities provide curriculum related
  opportunities for students on their personal
  journey from Kindergarten to graduation

Local Planning

• Use the journey activities to inspire dialogue
  and planning in division meetings
• Add to the sample ideas and find other subject
  areas (expectations) to deepen the learning
  experience
• Integrate journey activities into a school
  curriculum plan

Living the Vision

• Use the Catholic Graduate Expectations to guide
  school activities in the community
• Create and display artwork that illustrates how
  the young person may contribute to the common
  good in the school community
• Follow the guiding principles of the Catholic
  Graduate Expectations in formal and informal
  school meetings with staff, parents and students

Provincially Developed Elementary Units

• Application of Catholic Graduate Expectations
  throughout student activities
• Consider how some of these applications may be
  extended further in the school community to meet
  local needs
• Design a unit and/or series of units based on
  overall/specific expectations and the Catholic
  Graduate Student Expectations
