dissertation, the most important part is
preparation. Literature review plays a vitally
important role here. It helps on setting up the
dissertation topic.

- When searching, you need to use search terms
effectively. The searching techniques could
achieve your searching results. The common
techniques are - Truncation and wildcards word root is the
string, most database accept - Phrases commonly use quotation marks
- Boolean connectors AND, OR NOT, they could
be used in one search - Also, the online help in each database provides
options to revise and refine your initial
searching and get more relevant results for you.
That means, you must be patient to learn the
online help in each database when you are not
familiar to them.

The most databases offer you to save your
searches and results. With the online help in
each database, you can save them, print them out
or email them to yourself. Alerting services
you will receive email alerts on updates, such as
new books and journal articles, in your
subject/research area. The most useful method is
to set up an alert to receive the tables of
contents for journal titles in your area.

- UNNCLOC library online catalogue, 25,000
titles, covering physical books, electronic books
and papercopy journals - eLibrary Gateway nearly 200 databases AND over
21,000 ejournal titles with full text articles
access. It is an easy way to obtain full text
journal articles via Find eJournal

articles. Reminder access to full text articles
depends on the subscriptions UNNC library have
paid. Alternatively, please check eJournals in
eLibrary Gateway, get the full article via SFX if
possible.
