14Adventures in Writing Write a letter to the
editor of the newspaper, telling people about the
bald eagle, the African elephant, or the blue
whale. In your opening sentence, tell the editor
the name of the animal and where it lives. In
the body of the letter, include at least two
details about the endangered animal. Also,
include a sentence that explains why this animal
is disappearing from the Earth and another
sentence telling people what they should do (or
not do) to save this animal from extinction.
Remember that a letter has a date, a greeting, a
body, a closing and a signature.
