What happened next?
  • Hitler and the Nazi Party attempted the Munich
    Putsch in November 1923.
  • This failed as they did not have support.
  • Gustav Stresemann became Chancellor.
  • He ordered the striking Ruhr back to work and
    introduced a new currency, the Rentenmark.

Why didnt Weimar Germany collapse in 1923?
  • People were still willing to give democracy a
    chance.
  • The extremists had failed to seize power through
    violent means.
  • People wanted peace and order.
  • Stresemann resolved the immediate problems of
    1923.
