• Testing
• High Risk Groups-Men who have sex with other men
  (MSM), Injection Drug Users (IDUs) and
  Heterosexual Latina Females

Geography Overview

• Imperial County borders the capital city of
  Mexicali in Northern Baja California, Mexico
• Mexicali has a population of close to 2 Million
  inhabitants
• ICPHD oversees the grant funds and monitors
  contract activities

HIV/AIDS Case Reporting

• AIDS 206 cases since 1983
• 86 (42) are deceased
• HIV 53 cases reported by name since April 2006
• One (2) deceased

• Nearly all (89) are males
• Most (77) are Latinos
• About half of all male cases (55) identified
  risk as MSM
• 13 of all cases reported risk as IDU
• 7 of males reported risk as MSM/IDU

• As of April 17, 2006, HIV became reportable by
  name
• To date, surveillance staff has identified 20 of
  the 61 cases previously reported by non-name code
  
• 25 new cases in past year
• Most are Latinos (68) and male (81)
