Sumulat ng Mga Awit 73
  • Asaph
  • Leader of one of the temple choirs. 1 Chronicles
    639 1 Chronicles 251
  • Situation He was stricken v 13. It was not
identified but persists day after day and from
which he can find no relief.

13
More on Asaph.
  • He is a seasoned believer.
  • He truly believes in Gods sovereignty thats
why the injustice seems intolerable and why God
    is addressed so insistently.
  • He is returning to a more intimate connection
    with God previously experienced

14

15
  • 13. Surely in vain have I kept my heart clean,
and washed my hands I innocence.
  • 14. For all day long I have been stricken, and
    chastened every morning.

16
May tama ka!
  • 14 Diyos pinagtiis mo ako ng maluwat
  • sa tuwing
  • umaga parusa ang gawad

17
  • Ang taong may tama ay nagaalinlangan sa kanyang
pananampalataya hanggang sa halos ay bumitaw siya
    dito.
  • Day after day this vexed and plagued him eroding
his confidence in his own values to the point
that he was ready to renounce them.

18
May tama nakikita kabiguan/ everything is in vain
  • 13 Samantalang ako malinis ang palad, hindi
    nagkasalat lubos na nag-iingat,
  • ang aking natamoy kabiguang lahat.
  • 13. Surely in vain have I kept my heart clean,
and washed my hands I innocence.

19
Erosion of confidence I have doubt May tama ka!
  • Fear
  • Uncertainty
  • Pain
  • Skill
  • Physical Attributes
  • May tama ka!

20
Example of losing confidence
  • David pretends to be insane when captured by
    Achish. 1 Samuel 2110-15
  • v 11 Isnt he the one they sang about in their
dances Saul has slain his thousands and David
has slain his tens of thousands?
  • 12 David took these words to heart and was very
much afraid of Achish king of Gath.

21
  • 13 So he pretended to be insane in their presence
and while he was in their hands he acted like a
madman, making marks on the doors of the gate
  • And letting saliva run down his beard.

22
Is this the same David? that said to Goliath
  • 1Samuel 1745 You come against me with sword
and spear and javelin, but I come to you in the
name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies
of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the
Lord will hand you over to me, and Ill strike
you down and cut off your head.

23
1Samuel 17
  • Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine
army to the birds of the air and the beasts of
the earth, and the whole earth will know that
there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered
here will know that it is not by sword or spear
that the Lord saves for the battle is the Lords
and He will give you into our hands.

24
Its hard to stay focused when you have doubts
  • The problems are sometimes all that you can see.

25
Asaph became envious and resentful
  • Of who? Those who are prosperous, wicked and
arrogant. Not all wealthy are wicked and not all
    wicked are wealthy.
  • Social analysis of above
  • Reasons v4 They have no pain, their bodies are
    sound and sleek.
  • 5 They are not in trouble as others are they are
    not plagued like other people

26
Social analysis that leads to religious crisis
  • 6 Therefore pride is their necklace, violence
    covers them like a garment
  • 7 Their eyes swell out with fatness 8 They scoff
and speak with malice 9-10 They set their mouth
against heaven, therefore the people turn and
praise them and find no fault in them 12 Such are
the wicked, always at ease, they increase in
    riches.

27
The many emotions that Asaph processed
  • Fear
  • Envy
  • Anger
  • Resentment
  • Indifference

28
Is envy or any of these emotions a sign of lack
of faith?
  • Some see this as lack of faith. I see it as
    processing your faith.
  • Making the right choices. One choice at a time.
  • Romans 121-2 Do not conform to the world but be
ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.

29
James 12-4
  • 2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you
face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know
that the testing of your faith develops
perseverance. 4 Perseverance must finish its work
so that you may be mature and complete, not
    lacking anything.

30
Ex. Davids chooses not to kill Saul
  • 1Samuel 243-12
  • 3 And he came to the sheep pens along the way, a
cave was there, and Saul went in to relieve
himself. David and his men were far back in the
    cave.

31
1 Samuel 24
  • 4 The men said, this is the day the Lord spoke
of when he said to you, I will give your enemy
into your hands for you to deal with as you
wish. Then David crept up unnoticed and cut off
    a corner of Sauls robe.
  • 5 Afterward, David was conscience stricken for
having cut off a corner of his robe.

32
1 Samuel 24
  • 6 He said this to his men, the Lord forbid that
I should do such a thing to my master, the Lords
anointed, or lift my hand against him for he is
    the anointed of the Lord.
  • 7 With these words David rebuked his men and did
not allow them to attack Saul. And Saul left the
    cave and went his way.

33
1 Samuel 24
  • 8 Then David went out of the cave and called out
to Saul, My lord the king! And when Saul
looked behind him, David bowed down and
prostrated himself with his face to the ground.
  • 9 He said to Saul, Why do you listen when men
say, David is bent on harming you?

34
1 Samuel 24
  • 10 This day you have seen with your own eyes how
the Lord delivered you into my hands in the cave.
Some urged me to kill you but I spared you I
said, I will not lift my hand against my
master, because he is the Lords anointed.
  • 11 See, my father, look at this piece of your
robe in my hand! I cut off the corner of your
robe but did not kill you.

35
1 Samuel 24
  • 11.. Now understand and recognize that I am not
guilty of wrongdoing or rebellion I have not
wronged you, but you are hunting me down to take
    my life.
  • 12 Jehovah judge between me and thee, and Jehovah
avenge me of thee but my hand shall not be upon
    thee.

36
  • v 26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is
the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
  • v 27 Those who are far from you will perish you
destroy all who are unfaithful to you.
  • v 28 But as for me, it is good to be near God. I
have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge I will
    tell all of your deeds.
