Henry Sewall, Ph.D. Professor of Physiology.
1882 1889 His appointment as Prof. of
Physiology in 1882 marks the establishment of the
Department of Physiology. Sewall was a founding
member of the American Physiological Society.

Interesting facts about the Chemical Laboratory
building.
Built in 1856, it was the first university
building in North America built specifically as a
laboratory. Physiology was located here from
1910-1925. It was altered several times. The
south wing eventually became the Economics
Bldg. In 1980 it was burned down by a
disgruntled former employee.
