In the novel, The Skeleton Man, by Joseph Bruhac,
we discovered that many of our fears in certain
situations are caused by scary tales told by
others. Molly only believed that her captor was
a monster was because of the Indian lore that
her father told her. Her fear was based not on
fact but on circumstances.

In teams of 2-3, the task is to read two Native
American tales and find similarities between the
tales you read and the one Mollys father tells
her in our story The Skeleton Man. Use a bubble
map to give the following details of the Indian
tale you and your partner read. Name of the
story. (Center Bubble) Name the hero(s) in each
story? Name the villain in each story? What
theme do you recognize in all of the stories? Use
the resource page for links to several Native
American tales.

about a culture different from their own.
Learning about those that are different from us
may actually show how much alike we really
are. The objective of this WebQuest was more
than an exercise in using technology, but a
chance to see something different from ourselves.
