There is the known, and there is the unknown, and
in between is the doors. Jim Morrison
  • Many motivational experts like to say that
leaders are made, not born. I would argue the
exact opposite. I believe we are all natural born
leaders, but have been de-programmed along the
    way.

20
LEADERSHIP
Leadership is defined as influencing others to
work diligently toward achieving their goals.

  • Character
  • Is
  • Power
  • - Booker T. Washington

30
Definition Of Character
  • The word character comes to us from a Greek
verb that means making a furrow, cutting a
groove, or putting a scratch on something as a
mark. In the light of its origin, we may think
of character as that which puts its mark on a
    human being.
  • Character is what makes you what you are as
distinct from other persons. The individual is
little more than a bundle of feelings unless
there is some central loyalty within creating
order out of the chaos of the soul. Character
signifies the organization of life and behavior
around a central loyalty, which has ethical worth
    and validity.

31
Excellence Is A Habit
  • We are what we repeatedly do excellence then is
not an act, but a habit.
  • - Aristotle

32
The Leadership Challenge
  • Focus on the individual members and the team
  • Provide the opportunity to develop and utilise
    their talents and strengths
  • Listen to concerns
  • Allocate the right resources for the right
    project, at the right time
  • Specify standards and expectations
  • Delegate responsibility through empowerment
  • Let people identify their own interests and
    abilities
  • Lead by example set the standard for excellence

33
Overall, Others Must . . .
  • . . . Trust you!
  • . . . Have faith in you!
  • . . . Believe in you!

William Wilberforce
34
ten easy steps to awaken the LEADER in YOU
  • 1. Humility
  • 2. SWOT Yourself.
  • 3. Follow Your Bliss.
  • 4. Dream Big.
  • 5. Vision.
  • 6. Perseverance.
  • 7. Honor Your Word.
  • 8. Get a Mentor.
  • 9. Be Yourself.
  • 10. Give.

35
H.I.P. Leaders
  • H.I.P. leaders coach, mentor, teach and lead.
At the core of each of these new roles is the
    skill of facilitation. Todays leaders
    constantly practice facilitation and feedback
techniques, and hone skills for use at the job.

36
  • When the work is done, the people say,
  • We did it ourselves.
  • - Lao-Tzu

37
Take Your Place!!!
  • This is your assignment, your role, and your
    responsibility as a H.I.P. leader.

38
Be a Hero!
  • Interestingly, the original meaning of the word
hero comes from the Greek root servos and heros,
which means to serve and protect
  • Self-sacrifice for the higher good and betterment
of humanity is at the heart of being a Hero or
    Leader.

39
Serve to be a Hero Leader
I want to point out here that the root definition
of hero centering on self-sacrifice and service
to others is incredibly important in our
development. It implies that the seeds of
greatness lie within us all, and that we can all
endeavor to become the heroes we were truly meant
to be. Martin Luther King Jr. really brought home
this point when he declared, Everyone can be
great because anyone can serve. You dont have to
have a university degree to serve. You only need
passion and the right motive.
40
  • The miracle power that elevates the few is to
be found in their industry, application, and
perseverance, under the promptings of a brave
    determined spirit.
  • Mark Twain
