Our choice
  • We had chosen The Bridget Jones Diary, because
the book and the main characters are
entertainment and it takes place in present days.
There are the same problems as probably some of
    us has.

4
AuthorHelen Fielding
  • She was born
in Morley (north Yorkshire) in 1960, she
    attended Wakefield Girls' high
school, St Anne's College and University of
    Oxford.
  • She worked as a TV producer of
documentaries for BBC in Africa, where she got
material for her first, but overlooked, novel
Cause Celeb (1994). It exams relationship between
starving people in Africa and rich celebrities in
    the West.
  • Helen started to write The Bridget Jones
Diary, when she was writing columns for the
    Independent.
  • The influence on Helen had certainly Jane
    Austens publications.
  • Her last novel named Olivia Joules and
the Overactive Imagination was introduced in
    2003.
  • Now she lives and works in London and
    Los Angeles.

5
Key words and phrases
  • In the course of the reading, I have adopted, for
example, these key words that I had not used
    before
  • to yell - to shout
  • hideous ugly
  • a meat hatchet ??
  • Have a fag? Have you got a cigarette?
  • along side next to someone
  • puzzled confused
  • Isnt that marvellous! - Isnt it strange?
  • smugly with happiness of myself
  • indeed - really
  • to try to slip to try to enter somewhere
    secretly

6
Quotation
  • Honestly, Bridget! Life is for living! If Daddy
wants to live between golf and the potting shed,
thats up to him. (pg.78, chapter 3)
  • Uprímne Bridget! ivot je k tomu, aby se il!
Pokud táta chce ít mezi golfem a kulnou na
    náradí, je to na nem.
  • We had chosen this quotation, because its the
    best advice for life.

7
What I didnt know before reading the book is
that
  • We didnt know before that the first British
single of Madonna wasnt Lucky Star, but Holiday
    was.

8
Person I have chosen to compare myself with
  • Bridget Jones against to tepka
  • Bridget wants to solve her problems at the
moment without long thinking about it. Against to
tepka, she thinks about her problems before she
    solve it.
  • Both of these ladies arent afraid to tell
    their opinion aloud.
  • Because of Bridgets crazy ideas she get into
silly situations. tepka is calm and considerate,
so she doesnt get into these situations.

9
If I were, I would
  • If we were Bridget Jones, we wouldnt be
so suspicious and jealous, so we wouldnt climb
on the roof window of our boyfriends house.
  • We would stay at home, because we would
asked him what he is going to do in the evening.
    We would believe him.

10
Conclusion
  • Is difficult to understand The Edge of
Reason, if you arent perfect in English. There
are so, so many slang expressions (honestly, some
of these expressions arent even in a
    dictionary).
  • But in a result the book is full of funny
situations, dialogues and advices for life (your
behaviour should be against to Bridgets).
  • If you like to laugh to others
unhappiness, this book was written for you.
  • For us was reading this book very useful,
because we learned a couple of new phrases and
    words.
