- Formed in 1996, the Mississippi Chronic Illness
Coalition first concentrated its efforts on
Diabetes - The Coalition expanded in 1999 to include other
chronic diseases affecting Mississippians
including Cardiovascular Disease, Arthritis,
Cancer, Obesity etc
3Membership
- MCIC consists of active and supporting members
from over 130 member organizations with a vested
interest in decreasing and preventing chronic
illness in the state of Mississippi
4Mission Statement
- The Mississippi Chronic Illness Coalition is a
volunteer driven partnership with the mission of
reducing chronic illness and associated health
disparities to improve the health of all
Mississippians by facilitation of health
promotion and disease prevention

- I. Identify, recruit and coordinate statewide
partners and resources that will aid in
accomplishing MCICs mission - II. Identify and share resources to empower
the general public to take ownership of their
health through behavior change

- Control or modify risk factors blood sugar,
blood pressure, cholesterol, smoking, weight,
physical inactivity. - The greater number of risk factors, the greater
the risk. - Aggressively adopting a healthier lifestyle is
the most effective strategy for reducing
complications. - Bad numbers cause increased risk of illness or
death.
