Title: How High Can You Jump

1
How High Can You Jump?
2
You are in the olympics and wish to jump as high
as possible. You are able to start your jump
with a speed of 10m/s and at an angle of 30
degrees with respect to the ground. How high
above the ground did you jump?
3
The Second Step
What is the next step in solving this problem?
Answer Draw the picture of course. Proceed when
you are ready.

Now what do you do?
Hint, an equals sign might be useful!

Anything else?
Question Why was there an arrow over the
velocity in the picture but not here?
q 30o
Answer When you write down the length of the
vector, the arrow is always omitted. When you
are indicating the directions the arrow is
included.

Why arent we there yet?
Is there anything left to say? Examine the
problem carefully and see if anything is missing.
Ask yourself what happens at the highest point.
Do you stop, then start again? Imagine that you
encounter a wall at the highest point? Are you
moving when you reach it? In what direction?
Exactly what happens at the highest point?
Answer Your horizontal motion does not go away
at the top. You do stop rising, however! How
would you write this down as an equation?
