How the Brain Works

• When the brain is young, its cells grow at the
  rate of thousands per second. These cells store
  new information and skills and form new
  connections to each other.
• Many of these new connections result in the
  development of neural networks that help the
  child have success throughout his whole entire
  life. However, sometimes these connections go
  wrong and set the stage for a lifetime of
  problems.

The development of the human cortex is
characterized by an increase in the number of
connections. Although individual cells can be
readily seen in the newborn cortex, by two years
the neurons are hare to discern in a dense

• Allow students to use a variety of colors when
  taking notes.
• Use white boards to include students in
  instruction. You can use a plastic plate with
  wipeable crayons or whiteboard markers.

Projects and Reports

• Create a model for reports and projects
• Get a manila folder, 6 envelopes, and 24 3x5 note
  cards for each student
• Open the folder and glue 3 envelopes on each side
  (glue with flaps out)
• Write the numbers 4,3,2,1 on each envelope
• Label the topics of the report or project beside
  each envelop, for example (habitat, food,
  enemies, description, interesting facts,
  bibliography)

  appropriate envelopes
• Cross off a number as each card is added
