  • Type your user name on the Welcome screen to
    display the password text box
  • Type your password in the password text box
  • Click the arrow button to log on to the computer
    to display the desktop and the Windows Sidebar on
    the desktop
  • You may see the Welcome Center screen as shown in
    the next slide

Windows Sidebar
  • Contains mini-programs called gadgets, which
    offer information at a glance and provide easy
    access to frequently used tools.
  • For example, you can use gadgets to display a
    picture slide show, view continuously updated
    headlines, show the time or look up contacts.

    taskbar to open the Start menu
  • Point to All Programs at the bottom of the left
    pane on the Start menu to display the All
    Programs list
  • Click Accessories to expand the list of programs
    and folders in the Accessories folder

  • Contains links to parts of Windows that you're
    likely to use frequently.
  • Personal folder
  • Named for whoever is currently logged on to
    Windows. For example, if the current user is
    Logan, the folder will be named Logan. This
    folder, in turn, contains user-specific files,
    including the Documents, Music, Pictures, and
    Videos folders.
  • Documents
  • Opens the Documents folder, where you can store
    and open text files, spreadsheets, presentations,
    and other kinds of documents.
  • Pictures
  • Opens the Pictures folder, where you can store
    and view digital pictures and graphics files.

  • Double-click the new drive letter that displays
    the flash drive probably the (E) icon in the
    Folders list to open it
  • Right-click an open area of the right pane to
    display a shortcut menu.
  • Point to New on the shortcut menu to display the
    New submenu

  • Open Search by clicking the Start button , and
    then clicking in the Search box.
  • Type a word or part of a word in the Search box.
  • As you type, files from a variety of locations on
    your computer will appear that match your text.
  • My example is displaying a folder, some
    favorites, and two files that have the word
    Weatherford somewhere in the file

  • Point to the arrow to the right of the Lock this
    computer button to display a menu
  • Click the Log Off command, and then wait for
    Windows Vista to prompt you to save any unsaved
    and log off
